In previous lessons, kindergartners have experienced the musical opposites of loud and soft in different ways. We have listened to and created loud and soft musical sounds. This week, kindergartners heard the song "Grizzly Bear" for the first time and were able to identify that the music changed between loud and soft in order to show when the bear was sleeping or awake! Ask your student to sing the song for you!
One student curls up in the middle of the circle pretending to be the sleeping bear, while the other students dance and sing around them. When the music is quiet, the dancing students tip-toe and gracefully glide. When the music gets loud, the students stomp and make noise to wake up the bear. Once the bear is awake, everyone FREEZES so that the bear won't catch them! The bear points out anyone who they see moving and they go sit outside of the circle. The bear in the middle picks a new bear, and everyone is back in for round 2!
